Le Grand Cru

Research presentation by Le Grand Cru

A video installation on the research
How does a religious background define the identity as a choreographer, dancer or spectator of dance?
Thursday, June 17th / 19hrs / Danslab studio

Le Grand Cru: “By working with other cultures, where religion often plays an important role, we – Noortje Bijvoets en Feri de Geus- have become strongly aware of our roots in the Christian religious system and the fact that we act upon this accordingly without even realizing it.

With this research at Danslab Feri and Noortje have questioned over 50 colleagues and dance lovers as to what extent religion is associated with their perception of dance. Whether they are influenced by religion in the way they perceive dance and the choices they make within their work. And whether there are parallels between the feeling of dance and religion within their artistic domain. The open and disarming interviews were translated into a video-installation as a presentation of the research, with the help of documentary maker Eric van den Broek.

Opening:
Thursday, June 17th 2010 / Danslab studio
19:00hrs: first viewing installation
19:45hrs: enlightenment research and short lecture on art and religion by Prof. Dr. Goud (professor theological aesthetics at the University of Utrecht)
20:15hrs: second viewing installation

Le Grand Cru: “ We hope the installation will inspire visitors to give their own reaction to what they see on screen, to enable us to extend our research”.
The research will be extended to migrant artists and their relation to religion and the art of dancing. After 2 years the information will be collected and gathered and a selection will form the basis for a publication, a documentary or performance on the theme of dance and religion in the Netherlands.
